The artist is Shilov
Gagarin Yuri Alekseevich (1934–1968) was the first person in world history to fly into space. This great event took place on April 12, 1961, when the Soviet spacecraft “Vostok” was withdrawn to the near -Earth orbit. He became a favorite of millions of people in different parts of the planet, Gagarin died in 1968 during a training flight on a fighter. The first fame of Shilov was brought by portraits of cosmonauts p. AND. Klimuk, c. AND. Sevastyanova, c. A. Shatalova and especially the portrait of Yuri Gagarin, made using the pastel technique. This complex technique made it possible to create a subtle and romantic image of the folk hero, which was Gagarin, who looked with his unchanged smile from the pages of magazines and newspapers. On the one hand, this is an image-stamp, and on the other, the image of a free, bright person against the backdrop of the blue sky and the vast expanses of the Motherland. (T. H.)

In 1977, the artist received the Lenin Komsomol Award for a series of portraits of Soviet cosmonauts. This work can serve as a kind of afterword to it. If the portraits of the series are resolved in the front way: the astronauts solemnly appear before the viewer in the splendor of well -deserved awards, so in the portrait of Gagarin nothing speaks of a feat of the feature. The waist section of the portrait, the simplicity of clothing reduce the distance between the depicted and the viewer. However, the very face of Gagarin, which has become one of the icons of the twentieth century, compared with the ideal landscape of the “Russian field”, provides the picture with the status of a cult work.
