The panel was made by a group of artists under the leadership of Vasily Efanov. To work on the picture, the artist attracted a group of masters who, in total, wrote about 200 sketches. Many portraits of academicians created for a large composition acquired independent importance and, together with the picture, were exhibited at the All -Union Art Exhibition in 1952 in Moscow. The canvas captures a meeting of academicians, members of the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, dedicated to the plan for the construction of the main Turkestan Canal. The photographic and documentary reliability of the meeting does not detract from the advantages of this group front portrait written in the traditions of a realistic school. The team of artists for working on the canvas and individual portraits of academicians was awarded the Stalin Prize of the 3rd degree.
